The Exotic Taman Sari

If you travel to Yogyakarta don’t miss to visit the Taman Sari or Water Castle.  It was a royal garden and  the last bastion when the palace was attacked by the enemy. Set your camera we travel to Taman Sari.



 
Taman Sari was built in 1758-1765/9 (Sultan Hamengku Buwono I era). It had more than 10 hectares with about 57 buildings in the form of buildings, swimming bath, hanging bridge, water canal, artificial lake, artificial islands and the underwater passage.
Taman Sari was divided into 4 parts:
The First Part
Segaran located in the west. Segaran used to maintain various types of fish and boating spot Sultan and the royal family. This artificial lake has become densely populated known Kampung Taman.
PuloKenongo are in the middle Segaran. In this artificial island was established building "Gedhong Kenongo". Here, one could observe the Sultan Palace and surrounding areas. From a distance the building is like floating on the water. So that the Taman Sari dubbed "Water Castle" 
Tajug was ventilation tower of underwater tunnel. The tunnel was a passage into the Pulo Kenongo than using canoe/boat. 

Pulo Cemethi, an artificial island located to the south of Pulo Kenongo. It was place of Sultan meditate.

Sumur Gumuling, circular building was accessible through an underwater tunnel only. It used as a mosque.

The Second Part
Gedhong Gapura Hageng  was the main gate used by the kings.
Pasiraman Umbul Binangun was swimming baths for the Sultan, queen, and princess. The building is well maintained and visited by many tourists.
Gedhong Sekawan was a resting place for the Sultan and his family. On each side there is a door connecting it to another courtyard.
Gedhong Gapura Panggung, in this building there were four dragon statues, but only two pieces remaining. It represented years of construction Taman Sari in 1758 AD (1684 in Javanese calendar)
Gedhong Temanten was security guard on duty and rest area.
The Third Part
Pasarean Ledok Sari was a Sultan’s bedroom with his queen. Another version said a place of meditation. In the middle of the building there was a bed Sultan's underneath the water flowing.
The Fourth Part
It was located in east of Segaran and Pemandian Umbul Binangun. The last part is a part of Taman Sari practically nothing left anymore.
Taman Sari is not like in the past, however the place is still exotic to visit. You can make pre wedding photos, see the sunset and sunrise, dating and much more. [Travelesian]
