Ijen Crater |
East Java has amazing
natural charm. Kawah Ijen is one.
The crater water is pretty calm and green tosca.
The scenery looks so amazing. Especially in the morning, fog still blanketed
trees, exotic scenery
to be enjoyed. The beauty of the mountains and the forest are still well maintained.

tourists from Europe had been visiting it. Kawah Ijen is very attractive as a
tourism object, geological and
geochemical studies.
Kawah Ijen is not too difficult to reach.
There are two ways, through Banyuwangi
city and Bondowoso city. The
second way is the most widely adopted
due to the over
smooth asphalt roads,
while the first way through macadam road
full of steep grades.
The route of this
Bondowoso across coffee
plantations with three different gates. At
each gate we were
asked to sign guest book, purpose of trip and give some money.
The scenery on this route is very good, with
green arabica coffee
plantations, pine forests and dense forests of Ijen-Merapi.
Besides panorama is very beautiful, we will
see traditional sulfur mining borne by human power. Traditional mining is supposedly
found in Indonesia
only (Welirang and Ijen). Expenses are transported each per person of at least 70 kg.
This load is unusually heavy for most people.
Kawah Ijen Trip start in Paltuding (at altitude of 1,600 meters) in the valley of Merapi-Ijen Mount. From here the
dirt road is uphill all the way to
altitude of 2.400 meters. It takes
about 2 hours leisurely stroll.
Arriving at the edge of the crater,
stunning scenery in
sight. An tosca
green crater with a diameter of 1 km shrouded
in mist and fumes are far below.
Sulfur miners look
small from above. For look at closer the crater, we had to descend the
rocks cliff along the path.
Wet handkerchief is
necessary, because sometimes the wind blows the smoke to carry
into the path of decline.
If you don’t want to go straight into the crater, we could
surround the caldera. It can be done with a
full day. Climbing to kawahIjen is suggested starting
in the morning. For security reasons,
the climb to Kawah Ijen from Paltuding
is closed at 14:00, due to dense smoke and
possible wind direction will lead
to a route. To
pursue the journey in the morning,
visitors are advised to stay at a nearby location that provides plenty of lodging.
