Majapahit royal architect select the location, It was perhaps to gain tranquility and closeness to nature. This was evidenced by the canal across in front of  temple, located approximately 200 meters to the center of canal system of Majapahit.  It was proved a close relationship with Majapahit downtown area.

To reach Bajangratu temple, visitors should be driving as far as 200 meters from the highway Mojokerto - Jombang. In the vicinity of this temple there are many other historic relics from the golden era of the Majapahit kingdom. Majapahit was one of the respected kingdoms on earth.

The establishment of Bajangratu temple is unknown, but based on the relief contained in the building, the temple was probably built in the 13th – 14th century . This temple has the roofed archway shape and stairs. The temple was completely refurbished and inaugurated in 1992

The function of this temple was the entrance to accompany the death of King Jayanegara. But  actually before his death, Bajangratu temple was used as a back door of the kingdom. This assumption is supported by the relief "Sri Tanjung" and arches wings symbolized release. It is a culture in Trowulan, if they had to mourn the dead through the back door.  [Travelesian]
